My cat has medium hair and tabby colors, so when she started scratching, it was hard to spot fleas. These metal combs get right through the under hair and capture big and little fleas, as well as the “flea dirt” and dandruff. They wash easily and appear to be sturdy. Once the flea problem was tackled, I continued to comb every few days just to be safe,and the cat finds it soothing. 🙂 The double-sided plastic ones are identical to lice combs my friend purchased for her daughter at $8 each, so I passed those on. All in all, a great purchase.

Fleas are a real pain, so revenge is appropriate. The combs are effective tools. I like the long handled comb the best. Fill a small bowl with water and add a few drops of dish soap. Dip the comb in the solution and comb your furry friend. The fleas cling to the wet soapy comb. Then dip the comb and watch the fleas and lice drop into the dish. After about 5 seconds they are dead at the bottom of the bowl. The soap changes the viscosity of the water so the fleas can’t jump out of the water. I use dawn. Put the soap in after filling the bowl with water so there are no suds. Put a similar solution in a spray bottle and hit areas where your pet hangs out. Wipe up hard surfaces with a paper towel. Soapy water has long been known to control aphids on your plants. I am not surprised that it also works on fleas. I have not done a double blind study to see if it is as effective as other remedies, but that would be an interesting study, wouldn’t it?
