Best Dematting tool ever
My 14 year old cat was heavily matted despite my best efforts and many types of combs used. This pet dematting rake by Pet Republique was the BEST item I have ever purchased. Removed all the matting in one sitting. Tool is strong, easy to use and inexpensive but most of all my cat tolerated it well and appeared quite comfortable. I highly recommend it

Good for regular grooming of cat with thick hair
This is a nice sturdy tool. I like that it has two lengths so I can still use it on my cat with finer hair. My one cat has very thick fur and mats quickly in shedding season. I use the longer side on him. The downside is that it will hold some hair but I found it is not a good idea to do on the couch as there is enough loose hair coming off it got all over it. My cat with finer short hair-who is a good groomer- I was able to use it to get her underhair off. After the initial winter hair came off she will allow me to pull it backward as long as I pull it through her hair with how it lays so it lays back down.

Works great for mats that aren’t too tight and close to the skin.
I initially bought this dematter comb for a 20 year old long-haired cat that had stopped grooming herself. She was not doing well, and had lost weight. So I didn’t want to clip her down because I didn’t want to knick her with the clippers. This comb worked really well for the areas that weren’t matted to the skin and were not matted too thick. You still have to work at the mats gradually from the end of the hair down. As the mats got thicker and tighter, this comb still pulled some of the hair out by the roots. When I saw this happening, I had to stop. We did end up losing the cat because she stopped eating, and we had to have her put to sleep.I have also used this comb for my dog who is a Mastiff/Sheepdog that has some wavy hair and a very cottony undercoat. Her undercoat mats even when her hair is relatively short. Even wire brushes don’t get through her thick undercoat. This dematting comb works very well for her, at least before her coat is completely grown out. It gets through the mats and removes the loosened dead hair that gets tangled in the mats. After combing her out with this comb, she feels nice and fluffy again.

Immediate relief from matted hair
My cat Kirby has the densest fur. He experienced immediate joy at the relief from the matting that couldn’t be removed with a wire brush, when this fantastic device was used. The tool took out some deep mats that I couldn’t get out with anything else. I love this tool and so does Kirby. He started making out with it when I was trying to finish his back.

Works great on my long-haired cat
I have an indoor, long-haired calico rescue cat (around 7 years old), and a short-haired rescue cat (around 6 years old). My long-haired cat rarely gets matts in her fur, but she does shed a lot starting in the spring and throughout the summer. Because both cats tend to groom themselves and each other, there is a big increase in vomiting (both food and hairballs) starting in early spring until their winter coats come in. I bought the Pet Republique Professional Dematting Comb, mainly for my long-haired cat. Since she was a street cat before I rescued her, she is a little skittish of strangers, noises, and being touched/petted on her tummy. However, she loves to be brushed around her head, neck, back and sides. I just work in the other areas (tummy/underarms, rear end, tail) a little a time. This dematting comb is amazing. I use it gently so that she doesn’t feel like I am pulling on her hair, and even so, it gets rid of a huge amount of excess fur. While I am using it, I tend to run my other hand behind the comb lightly so that, if she feels like it is tugging in the areas in which her fur is longer or thicker, my other hand is helping to keep the tugging to a minimum.I also like that the dematting comb works to thin out the hair – sort of like getting your hair “texturized” at a hair salon. Short of having her shaved in the summer, this is perfect to keep her comfortable and cool during those hot, “dog days” of Texas summer heat. There is only one thing I would love to have (in addition to this product): A narrow one just like it (teeth maybe 1.0 to 1.5 inches across) to use in very narrow spots, like the underarms and on the leg areas. There is another brand that has this specification, but I would prefer going with the brand I know.I did not receive anything for my review of this product.

Doesnât work well for us
Nice and sturdy comb. I have a large maine coon. Itâs just really heavy compared to other combs and the comb part just seems too bulky for my guys skin. Still part of my barber kit but may be better suited for a dog.

This comb is like a slicker comb on steroids
Holy cow! This comb is like a slicker comb on steroids. I have a rather large, very fluffy, pretty matted cat. I called the vet about having her shaved and found that they wanted a minimum of $75 to do the job. I decided to try alternatives first so I started looking online for a good tool for dematting by cat. I came across this one, and the reviews were mostly good so I decided to give it a try. Immediately upon opening the package, I was impressed with the solid, balanced, weighty feel of the comb. The grip fits my hand nicely and is comfortable to hold and use. I started gently combing the cat with it and she seems to really enjoy the feel. It only takes a very light touch to get right into the undercoat and start removing masses of loose hair. The comb has two sides, one with fewer teeth spaced farther apart. It is recommended that you start by using the wider spaced teeth first, then switch to the tighter side for maintenance and finish work. Within just a few minutes, I had removed an amazing abundance of loose hair from the cat. We still have a long way to go and I have only begun to start on the actual matted areas, but I am impressed with both the quality and functionality of this nice comb. I’ve removed a few of the smaller knots and began picking apart some of the larger ones. I am confident that this tool will do the job and my cat (who is relatively skittish) is being very accepting. I can only assume that means I’m not hurting her with the deep combing and pulling. I will update the post with my final thoughts once I get her all straightened out.

I’ve got an ageing cat that isn’t able to keep on top of grooming herself so a lot of matts had built up in her long fur. This brush gently thinned her coat getting to the thicker one under her top coat stopping new tangles. I was able to tease out a lot of the mats even in the sensitive areas under her legs and on her belly and my cat was far more tolerant of it than the Furminator brush which pulls and is better suited for short fur. There are still some very dense mats that will need to removed with clippers but I’m hoping this brush should prevent that happening again, maybe make her less prone to fur balls and lessen the amount of fur she sheds that coats all the floors and furniture!

I ordered this for my holland lop rabbit, which is a short-haired breed. The comb works great. The first time I was able to fully use it on him (he is still a bit nervous being in a new home), I removed a notable amount of matted fur. Now a month or so later, his fur is still mostly matte-free and his fur feels softer. I just run it through quickly and catch maybe one small matte on his back where he can’t reach as easily. It is a quality comb made with good materials and feels very sturdy/well made. For the product quality, performance, and price, I would definitely recommend having this comb in your pet care supplies.

Didnât do a great job, I thought it would make it easier to comb through clumps. Instead it distressed the cat and myself.
