Finally what I was looking for!!
We recently got a membership to our local dog park. With it being winter still and us working day shifts, it’s hard to find daylight where we can take our dogs out. The dog park is open 24/7 but it isn’t lit at all, so bringing our dogs here at night is pretty frustrating to them because they can’t see their toys when we throw them. So, naturally, I went to my local pet store and purchased a couple cheap light up balls of different brands. I began to realize all of these different brands are either powered by phosphorescent material (absorbs and retains glow from another source such as the sun or a flashlight) or motion/bounce activated light. This raises a couple issues. The balls made from phosphorescent material simply lose their glow much too fast, and the intial glow isn’t even very bright. On the other hand, the motion/bounce activated balls are great at first, but if your dog doesn’t run fast enough, the light will stop flashing before they get to it.At this point, I’ve got pretty specific criteria that I’m looking for in a glow ball. Brightness was my main concern. I’ve got an older dog that requires more light to see. My second concern was longevity of the light source. My older dog isn’t very fast so I’ve gotta make sure I can rely on this thing to stay glowing. To my surprise, it is incredibly difficult to find a product with this criteria. Until I stumbled upon THIS.Now I was initially hesitant. Let’s address the elephant in the room. Almost 17 bucks for a ball that glows. Yikes. I could get dozens of standard tennis balls for that price. But I took the risk, as it was literally my only option.Upon unboxing I noticed it came with a cord to charge. Fantastic. I was a little skeptical reading the packaging. There were typos and grammar issues, which raised a couple red flags for me as well. At this point I’m worried I bought some cheap ball that’s going to break as soon as it gets thrown.Boy did it prove me wrong. This thing is BRIGHT. My 13 year old sight-impaired dog can see it and follow it perfectly. It is also the perfect size and texture for my puppy, who has a difficult time holding tennis balls or other balls for extended periods of time. It also stood the tests of my 80 pound retriever mix with a bite grip equivalent to an alligator. This thing came out unscathed. Another important aspect of this ball is that it withstands hard throws and it bounces! It behaves exactly how a ball for a dog should. I’m especially pleased with the power saving feature. If the ball sits still for long enough, it will shut off, and will turn on as soon as it moves. But it stays on long enough for my 13 year old dog to slowly chase it! It’s wonderful and everything I could ask a glow ball to have. I’m curious as to how the battery will hold up over time. I will update this review as we continue to use this, but I’m almost certain I will be buying this again!

    Doesn’t last
Initially we loved this ball but it stopped working after 2 weeks. The charging design of this isn’t great. We liked the usb charging, it is the only ball on the market like that, but when we unscrewed the stopper to access the charging port the whole center of the ball rotated with it meaning it wouldn’t unscrew. We were finally able to get it open by stepping/squishing the ball while turning the orange stopper, got it recharged, and then the ball stopped working entirely a week later. Neat idea but poor execution. For those 2 weeks our dog loved the ball and that yellow was incredibly bright, like having a flashlight in our dogs mouth. Great visibility but not long lasting. The shipping was also very slow, several weeks and based on the price, not willing to try again. You’re better off with the nite ize ball which has an auto shut off. This one you can’t turn it on/off unless you keep it perfectly still or want to try opening that difficult orange stopper every day. We just preferred to store it in a non moving position due to a poor stopper experience. Nice idea but needs major improvements for sustained use. It was durable and sturdy, we have a power chewer, but isn’t worth paying this if it can’t glow as it is supposed to.

as long as it works, it works great – durability issues
Most night balls for dogs are glow-in-the-dark or illuminate for shorter periods of time. This one gives you a good 30-45 seconds of very bright light on a fairly sensitive sensor, so losing this in the dark is difficult. The added weight of the electronics makes it roll considerably further than a tennis ball. The hard cap over the electronics can cause the ball to bounce irregularly, which dogs love, and it seems durable enough that even landing on pavement won’t crack it. It fits a chuck-it, but loosely. My Golden Retriever, a very light chewer, loves the soft silicone exterior, but I don’t see it holding up well against even a moderate chewer. In fact, even mild chewers should have the ball kept away from them during unsupervised time, as the electronics capsule is easy for dogs to damage, especially the usb charging port, and it makes an attractive target for them.I have not submerged the device in water – with the hard cap threaded on, it may be water resistant, but I doubt it. I also have not tested in snow, although that will be inevitable soon, and I expect the cap will keep snow and ice out well enough (update: it does, but it’s still too flimsy overall). Not a perfect product, but worth a shot for dogs who aren’t big on chewing and owners with long, dark winters. UPDATE: I’m on my second or third one of these, and they just aren’t as durable as I thought or hoped. I’d guess you get a hundred or so good hard impacts before the internals just rattle themselves apart on average. I can’t justify it at this price point anymore.

    Works great
The ball is waterproof so you have to unscrew the area to turn it on and to charge it. Wish that it had a switch on the outside so you didn’t have to unscrew cap to get to switch but it’s bright and works great. Our dog loves it

This ball lights up nice and bright however after three outings with my dog the ball is broken. The charging mechanism fell inside of the ball so it cannot be charged. Disappointed. Should have listened to other reviews and not purchased it.
