Keeps my pup cool all summer!
I live in Texas so the summer heat is no joke. I let my dog out a few times a day, and even for only a few minutes she overheats. This cooling mat is great! I place it on the tile floor and it helps cool her down nicely. I’ve even laid down on it myself to cool down! It’s a bit of a pain to fill with water and once it’s full it gets very heavy. There’s a powder inside that turns to gel when mixed with water, and that’s what keeps it cool. Overall this is a great product to keep you and your furbabies cool all summer!

Perfect for an overheated kid who can’t sleep!
I have a kiddo who is always too hot and has been having a lot of trouble sleeping this summer.I was at first skeptical of the whole “gel” thing. It seemed like just an empty container needing to be filled with water. But inside it has a powdered gel that only takes a few minutes to soak up the water and become gel.Most of this review will be tips plus the science because I’m figuring you might need some more info, lol!First the science:The reason why this is cooling is that water holds more heat than air. So you need it to be cooler than body temperature for it to work but our house is consistently under 80 degrees so it works just fine. We keep it in the coolest part of the house (basement floor) so it’s actually a lot cooler than that. My child is presumably about 98.6 degrees so that difference means that heat flows from my child into the pad. The reason it stays cool for most of the night is that water can hold a lot of heat. Beds are designed to get cozy and warm so they hold in our warmth. This pulls it away.Now the tips:* Once filled, this weighs over 25 pounds! Don’t try to hold it up with one hand and fill it with the other. I put a rack across the kitchen sink and laid it flat across that then ran the water in that way. The opening only had to be an inch or so above the rest of it for it to fill nicely.* Be careful not to introduce air–any air inside makes weird squishy sounds when someone rolls around on it. But it’s easy to get out if you make the mistake. Just lay it flat and then slightly elevate one of the long ends so all the air goes up. Then work it across and out.* We have put it in the freezer but then any humidity in the air will collect on the outside and it will be unpleasantly damp. I’d advise against it unless you’re desperate.* My child has been sleeping with this every night since we got it and we’ve had no leaks. It seems really sturdy. We did screw the cap really tightly and we have a “no sharp things in bed” rule anyway but we’re being careful to enforce it (yes, I have the sort of child who needs this rule…lots of crafts and model building)* It is 25 pounds (as previously mentioned) so double check safety. I personally can’t lift it off my arms if it’s laid across them while I’m lying down. So you want to make sure you aren’t putting this on top of someone or giving it to someone who would pull it on top of themselves and then get stuck!My sister, who also runs hot and has trouble sleeping in the summer, wants one now so I’m purchasing one for her as a gift. It is far better than I was expecting or even than I thought when we first got it. My child says to give it “more than 5 stars!” To go from not sleeping most nights to getting a good night sleep every night feels like a miracle to this tired parent so I would be giving it more than 5 stars if I could!

Unbelievable bad design. The gel is not pre-filled. You have to add water yourself to “mix” the whatever thing they put inside the mat to make the gel. And, then the problem comes — there’s no instruction inside the package warning you that it’s a one time deal. You CANNOT drain the water if you want to put the mat away. When you drain the water, the gel comes out and one, you will make a mess and two, your gel cooling mat is forever gone.Even if you have no intention storing it away, it’s very difficult to fill up the mat with water. The mat is flat initially (of course), and water will immediately overflow if you don’t find some way to create an air pocket inside the mat. Then as it fills up, you need to constantly readjust the gel mix inside so that it won’t block the air pocket (or water will overflow). Oh, did I mention that it will get heavier and heavier as you fill it with water. You will be wrestling with the mat when you fill it with water.And, lastly, my grandpuppy immediately becomes interested in the lid of the water intake (and trust me, you never want to put the lid on the bottom side of any water filled item). Fearing that she will tear something off and the gel leaks and she would drink (eat?) the gel, I decide to throw the mat away immediately.

Woah. Never though he would like this much
This is a great product once its set up, keep in mind i said “once its set up” because it is as an absolute pain to fill it up. Water will get everywhere and there is no instructions on how to do it an easier way. So that’s kinda annoying but my dog loves it. We found that he was still sleeping on the hard wood floor as opposed to any soft dog bed, or padding we would put down. Dogs need to be sleeping on something cool, it is instinct. So the dog beds really don’t cut it since they draw in heat, this actually stays cool over night. They will be so much more comfortable on a cooling pad, so even though it was a “female dog” to fill, I am giving it five stars because my dog chooses to sleep on it every night. I was really surprised how often he chooses this bed, 100 percent worth it.

Love this cooling mat!!
This is an awesome cooling for large medium and small size dogs! Itâs a great size! My dog is a German Shorthaired Pointer and she loves this. It is very easy to fill up but I wish the hole was a little bigger to fill. It usually takes me about 10-15 minutes to fill up. I usually use a pitcher of water. I will usually throw it in my freezer before I take my dog for a walk. When we get back she will lay on it unit her body temperature gets back to normal. It looks very nice. Itâs very thick and my dog seems very comfortable on it. It truly is a great value for the price! I highly recommend this product!

Stays cool inside the house
This mat takes a very long time to fill. It does stay cool inside the house. We used the mat outside, and it did warm up in the sun, but once inside it cooled off again. Keep in mind this mat does get heavy when filled with the water but is easy to slide around on the floor if you have to move it. Good cooling mat.
