Construction seems fine, but cat is not impressed
My husband put this together using his own tools and had no issues. It looks and feels sturdy, no issue with appearance or construction. The cat, on the other hand, has absolutely ZERO interest in it. I put it at various angles against the area of our loveseat that he is most intent on destroying – he’s just scratched parts of the loveseat next to it instead. I sprayed catnip spray & rubbed mint leaves on it, since he likes catnip toys and gets all over us if we eat anything mint and after we brush our teeth – mint on this thing is meaningless. I put his favorite catnip-filled toys on top of it, hoping he’d reach for them & realize that scratching this instead of furniture could be just as enjoyable – he just jumped up on the nearest surface & knocked them to the floor. I moved it to his cat tree that has scratching posts he uses for a few seconds once in awhile. He avoided it. I tied a catnip toy onto the rope with the ball – he sniffed the toy briefly and moved on. I literally pulled him off of the loveseat while stubbornly clawed at it, moved him over to this thing. & rubbed his paws on it. Obviously, being a cat, he was not convinced by my efforts. Maybe someday, he’ll accidentally run his claws over it, fall instantly in love with clawing it, & will leave all his favorite furniture scratch spots alone. It could happen. Maybe.
