There is a method of learning to which no mammal is impervious—not even cats. It is called “classical conditioning,” and is used in a very specific way as part of clicker training. Every click results in something positive for the cat: a treat, a cuddle, a favorite game. Because cats are intelligent, they quickly understand what kind of behavior gets them a click and a reward, and they will experiment in order to find out what else might work. This manual explains what classical conditioning involves, why it works with every cat, how to avoid mistakes, and how to use rewards properly and develop chains and sequences of behavior, as well as small tricks.

Amaze your friends!
I was determined to have a better behaved cat, so I bought this book & a pack of clickers. My husband thought I was nuts. NOW he thinks I’m a genius! Our cat has already learned several commands very quickly by following the steps in the book. He sits for his food every time we feed him. He will sit on demand & now he jumps on demand into our arms! I started training him the beginning of April, so I would say in less than 6weeks he learned these skills. We are now starting to teach him to COME when called & next will be tricks! I am just amazed that you can train a cat to do ANYTHING, but it really is easy…it’s all conditioning w/food rewards. One way I found I REALLY got my cat’s attention was instead of treats I cut up little pieces of white meat chicken & WOW that really IS a treat to him, so he paid attention!

Yes, it really works
I was somewhat dubious that my seventeen year old cats could learn anything, but I was wrong. Clicker training is simple for both you and the cat. The first command is the hardest (sit in our case), but they learn faster with later commands and tricks. Give it a try, both you and your cat will have a good time and you will be so proud of your cat for showing you how smart it is.

great book
Quite an eye opener. I didn’t think this would work, but used the method and my cat now sits, goes up and lays down on command. I had initially purchased because the cat and I were having trouble bonding and this was a fantastic way to spend positive time together.

I have been training my cat and she is already coming on command, will sit up for me and I just about have her rolling over. She enjoys the attention and I am having fun too.

This has helped me teach my kitty but I have to say itâs a bit long winded I was expecting more information on the actual tricks & more photos would have helped. But itâs a good read & im not too disappointed.

My cat can be the most uniterested of fussy felines but a few minutes a day soon had him doing simple things on demand. But bear in mind a cats attention span is very short.try it and be confident it works. Be proud of your cat and yourself.

For a stocking filler for my son… hoping to have some well trained cats soon!

The most endearing part of this book was the beautiful cat photos – a delight to the eye. However, I was not as impressed with the content of the book and found that my cat (a Ragdoll) did not respond to the instructions that I followed from the book. In fact, the sound of the clicker frightened her despite the fact that I tried to lower the volume as much as I could. She can still beg, lie down, give a paw etc but will not respond to the clicker. She responds to verbal commands, praise and rewards, which is how I have trained her prior to purchasing this book. I wonder if this book has been translated from German to English as you will find either translation error or just plain proof reading error in the text of the book. The cat photos, however, are exceptional.
