Wonderful for our old blind dog.
Rarely give a five star review but so happy with this bed! We have an 80 lb,15-year-old springer mix with diabetes. He’s blind now but still loves life. Problem was he’s getting a bit more unsteady now and he started to have trouble negotiating laying down on his thicker orthopedic bed. He also does not like the heat of summer, and even with our AC on, I’d find him laying on our vinyl plank flooring, which was hard on his old joints and difficult for him when getting up. Thought I would try this bed and, so far, it has been a great success!!! I added only two and a half gallons of water and burped out the air so it lays flat and Rauley seems to be loving it. It’s not so high and also firm, so he can get himself up and down, without the trouble he was having with his thicker foam bed. It is also keeping him cool and comfortable, so I don’t have to run the AC on high all the time. He’s no longer trying to lay on the vinyl floor. He seems happy with it and so am I.

Great idea, worked well, difficult to empty and store
My dog loved the pad for the cushion and for the cool. I didnât like that the fill hole leaked but because he liked it I tolerated the leak. When we were done using it for the warmer weather I found it difficult to drain completely as it was extremely heavy when filled with water and you have to empty it a certain way to prevent the baffles inside from folding or shifting. I wanted it as dry as possible inside before storing to minimize mold or mildew and found it took over a week laying flat and repositioning it to insure all the water was drained out for it to dry. Itâs a great idea and my dog benefited from it but to be able to reuse it without the foam baffles inside being torn, folding up, etc. there should be an easier way to empty, dry, and store it.

would have been great if my water hose had ice cold water with which to fill item up with but no water hose does and upon filling it, wanted to move it literally two inches away from hose but the foam inside balled up and made a huge lump of foam inside thing and dogs were afraid of it because its not a surface they feel comfortable sitting standing or walking on, it spooked them even before I tried moving it and of course it is useless because after draining it, I would have to spkit it oodn to correct foam that is balled up inside so I would not buy this unless you can fill it only with ice cubes or dry ice and ice cubes but irregardless, the wet foam under my dogs paws has made this item useless for them. Good luck, buyer be aware.

Our dogs always adored the K&H cooling beds. The original version, however, took a downturn because it started leaking at the seam faster and faster. They never leaked anywhere else but at the seams.However, they were comfortable and cooled beautifully.When I saw a new version of the product, I was excited that they might have solved the leaking issue–they might have, the bed hasn’t leaked yet.I also liked that it seemed thicker and presumably more comfortable.However, the surface is very slippery and my senior dog has a terrible time trying to get herself up on it. I had to put a sheet over to give her some traction.Further, while it looks nice and thick, after the dog lays on it or a while, it gets packed down and it looses its thickness and cooling.I will continue buying these beds because my dog loves them. However, I’d love to see a better surface with some traction and thickness that remains.

The 1970’s Want Their Waterbed Back!
The concept is just like a vintage waterbed. The cold wicks the heat from the dog’s body. Perfect? No. Once I filled up a large mat for my elderly Great Pyrenees, I couldn’t move it! It must have weighed 30 lbs. What would I do when I want to vacuum or move it from room to room? No thanks. The waterless cooling pads work much better for large breed dogs simply because you’re not trying to fill a waterbed!

Best purchase for my boys!
We have been buying these cooling comfort beds for a few years now. Ours have lasted, except with the latest puppy he liked to chew the edges. Now that he is out of that stage, we have the largest and the medium size. They will lay On which ever mat is available, they love these mats!

2 hot days so far so good
1st I laid on it for about 5 min. Very cooling, didn’t get warm underneath me. And very comfortable on hips and head. Than I coaxed Zoe on. It grew on her over last 48 hours. She took long naps on it. Slept soundly. When she got up, it was still cool where she was laying. Remarkable. Was a little challenging filling bed with water, getting right amount, adjusting then getting excess air out. The foam inside get squished last time I added water and thought how will I be able to straighten that out. I just flipped it up and down like when your laying out your flat sheet on bed and i tapped on top of it to push it down. Eventually the lump Laid out flat and righted itself. Water is perfect now. Moving this thing or emptying water will be problematic. So, for right now, I love it. Zoe alternates beds. Im going to put her previous bed side by side to see which she chooses. It is very well made, strong seams and heavy canvas, smooth to touch. One suggestion: create a separate, weighted, cooling pillow in varying sizes and shapes and lengths. Made the same way, that you could add water to. Would love that for me and my pooch.

Filled this with cold water and through a heat wave it stayed really cool for at least 4 days but even after that it was still cool to touch. It was inside with no AC and temperatures very hot so impressive to stay cool. Thick enough it is comfortable.
