Choose the right feeder
Per the description, this really is 62.6″ tall. I like the different ways there are (3 methods) of anchoring the hook. I am using the spike method, and the hook stands up very well. It is very strong and can stand a good deal of weight. My only criticism is that it’s not that tall, so you have to make sure that if you’re hanging a bird feeder from it you will still have good visibility from your house and it will not be too readily accessible to squirrels. (The photos show that initially I had a bird feeder that hung down too low and was obscured by my fence, but then I got a more appropriate feeder and I now have good visibility.)

The Shepherd’s hook is easy to put together which is a good thing because the instructions totally lack clarity. Except for one small mention, how the screws are used is never explained. Nice pictures though.

Sturdy birdfeeder hanger! Use the prong base!
This is exactly what I was looking for to keep the squirrels away from my large metal bird feeder. I used the prong base to sink this about 8 inches (?) into the ground, which keeps the whole thing very steady. It can hold a lot of weight this way; I think my feeder holds 5lbs of seed.They also include a flat metal rectangle base, and a plastic ring that you can put water into to weigh it down—?? These additional parts do not seem useful, except maybe if you are planning to hang something very light? The flat metal base could possibly work by sliding it under a deck, or with large stones on top to stabilize it? —if you are planning to use the prong-base and your ground isn’t too soft and sandy, it will work great.When I was putting it together, I didn’t use tools at first – but I found that it was easier to center the threaded connectors between the poles if I used pliers. If you don’t take care to center each of them as you’re putting it together, the entire pole will be somewhat bendy and lopsided. Otherwise, it’s very sturdy, a good height, easy to put together, and does what I need it to.

The LIITRTON brand 62 inch indoor/outdoor shepherd’s hook is a light-duty yard and landscape accessory suitable for hanging objects weighing no more than a couple of pounds such as smaller windchimes, and light weight feeders for small birds such as chickadees.This device is quite versatile in large part due to the 4 x 14” half-inch steel tubes that screw together incrementally for the vertical component, theoretically offering 4 different height options at 14 inch increments. In practice, the majority of users will probably use the full 5 feet of vertical available, and the remainder of this review will focus on the dynamics of using this device at full height.The 2.5 KG combined weight of this product proved to be too much for the packaging and it arrived with pieces sticking out of the broken box. Each of the individual components had been wrapped in plastic however, and there was no apparent scratching or other damage observed.All of the components are painted flat black. None of the components have been powder coated, or any other type of specialty finish or weatherproofing. The vertical components are very sketchy: thin metal, lightweight, and only half inch diameter, whereas a 1 inch diameter would be much more robust and suitable for structural integrity in a 5 foot tall post.The usual failure point for this type of product is the dreaded “it fell down dear” syndrome. The product designers have attempted to mitigate this by providing a choice of 2 securement options, 4 x 10” prong ground penetrating anchor, and a cast-iron base measuring approximately 12 x 8”, with an optional 16 inch circular water bag for additional ballast.Our soil here at the tree farm home base is nasty shale rock, therefore using the ground spikes would be futile. However, as this review is written on December 2, 2024, the ground is already frozen, ruling out using the water pillow ballast for the next five months. Aesthetically, this ballast, especially the colour, would look totally out of place when used with this product.We are blessed with a large number of birds on site that we enjoy feeding and watching year-round. We have tried products similar to this in the past and found them to be attractive at first sight, but troublesome to maintain and prone to short lifespans before something breaks.One alternative is to purchase a pressure-treated 4 x 4 by 8 foot timber. Dig a 2 foot deep hole, insert and backfill the post and you will have a very robust six-foot tall alternative that costs about half as much, won’t rust, won’t unscrew or break at joints, and will last a lifetime without any further maintenance or worries about falling over.The attached pictures illustrate several uses made possible by this type of set up, but not possible with the present product under review. One of the posts has 4 different types and sizes of birdfeeders, with plenty of room for more if desired. Another pic illustrates ease of hanging a 12 pound bug zapper on one arm, and a birdhouse mounted on a 1 inch diameter pipe drilled into the top of the post.Another post has several planters on the upper part and a 110 V household electrical box, plus a low-voltage lighting transformer attached to the lower part of the post. None of these attributes would be possible with the present product under review.The present product includes 1 shepherd’s hook with no provision for other hanging options. In contrast, the wooden post allows one to peruse the Amazon marketplace where dozens of specialty hanging brackets are available to custom tailor to user needs and tastes.The verdict:The LIITRTON brand 62 inch indoor/outdoor shepherd’s hook is a light-duty yard and landscape accessory suitable for hanging objects weighing no more than a couple of pounds such as smaller windchimes, and light weight feeders for small birds such as chickadees. Product shortcomings and alternative solutions were noted. An overall product score of 2/5 is assigned.

The shepherds hook for outdoor was easy to assembled, took about 10 mins. It’s adjustable length is great to hang many things like, solar lanterns, bird feeder or potted plants. I’m going to use it for my solar lantern. It comes with 2 bases, a flat or ground plug, which you can decide to use it for indoor or outdoor. The hook is an S-shaped hook, which is able to hook onto anything. Now, I’ll just have to find the perfect spot and this is a great addition to my backyard.
