OXO Steel Lever Ice Cream Scoop

It’s great!
I had bought some designer ice cream scoops. They had ceramic handles with rainbow dots… too cute. It requires hand washing, and still after a few uses, the handle just cracked into powdery bits.I want an indestructible & dishwasher safe scoop that gives a pretty round scoop of ice cream…is that too much to hope for?!! I trust OXO brand due to other utensils I’ve used through the years. This OXO scoop does its job nicely, easily, and scoops up round perfect scoops that dislodges like a dream. I am so glad I bought it. Its design is modern & just wonderful in all the check boxes…

Works well for my needs
A couple of months ago, I bought a Deluxe Ninja Creami ice cream maker. I’ve been on a weight loss plan and I use it to make low fat, low sugar frozen “ice cream”. That being said, some of the results are a bit crumbly, or sticky, unlike regular full fat ice cream. I end up using a spoon and/or my fingers to scrape off the ice cream scoop as it won’t drop off like typical ice cream, especially when I get near the bottom of the container. It gets quite messy and annoying when serving ice cream to my family of 5 every night. I needed an ice cream scoop that helped release the ice cream in the bowl for faster and cleaner serving.I first bought the ice cream scoop with the side lever. It works very well, but the lever makes it challenging to maneuver and scoop near the bottom of the deluxe containers, even though it releases the ice cream easily into the bowls. I decided to eat the cost and go ahead & buy this Oxo scoop that doesn’t have the protruding lever. It works very well.Some negatives….If you note in the picture, the scoop itself is much smaller than a standard ice cream scoop. The scoop isn’t deep. I soon discovered that this was actually a positive because sometimes remaining ice cream at the bottom of the containers sticks to the scoop AND the lever. Having this shallow scoop allows you to brush it against the ice cream already in your bowl, releasing the ice cream.I took away 1 star because I wish the lever was slightly longer. When you’re continually scooping, you’re going to have your thumb on the lever, and it’s all the way down by the scoop.Oxo products seem built to last much longer than most kitchen utensils. I would buy this scoop again, even with the shorter release level. Hopefully there is a redesign in the future to make a bit of a longer lever.

Better Than Farberware
I have bought Farberware scoops for years, but after time, they tend to break in half. The emblem is glued onto the handle and it allows water to get inside which causes rust. I stumbled across this ice cream scoop and decided to give it a try. I liked it so much, I purchased another for my beach home. It is very solid construction. The lever cleanly pushes the ice cream from the scoop. Though the scoop size is slightly smaller than normal, I find it delivers the same size scoop because if its shape. Dishwasher safe. I hope this lasts the years to come.

Doesn’t work well
We had the previous design until it broke, so this one was the recommended replacement. We don’t love it. It isn’t ergonomically designed and it’s harder than usual to scoop ice cream – and as someone else mentioned, the shape of the scoop makes it impossible to form a round scoop. You’ll just end up with an oblong blob.

It gets my ice cream out of the container, and into my bowl, each and every time! LolNice piece for the dollar value..

As other reviewers have said, the lever isn’t super effective, but it’s still a really good scoop. Nice and solid, the size is excellent, I’ve used it without problems. Good product.
