A great weapon for the war on fleas
First flea comb ever, so I don’t know if there’s better out there. Best investment for fighting the war on fleas since expensive meds are hit or miss. We went from completely infested to relief in a couple of weeks by medicating the pets then combing them all daily as they would tolerate it. Now I comb occasionally just to be sure we stay caught up.
We use this comb on my Boxer (short hair) and on our foster/rescue cats and kittens, our own cats too. It does not work with my terrier’s longer, course hair unfortunately. Kittens are hard to deal with, but we make it work — I assume aside from wriggling bodies, their fur is too soft and bones stick out more so you get snagged up and they’re unhappy. Works perfectly well on adult cats with short hair (have not tried on longer hair). Fleas like to congregate on the neck/head area and at the tail, so that’s our biggest focus.
We can’t seem to make it work with rinsing off fleas in a glass of water as the fleas are often caught tight in the comb and then you’re trying to put a wet comb on an unhappy cat. So while I need an extra arm, I just juggle holding kitty, combing with one hand, then pinching off the fleas between finger and thumb and squeezing/rolling them until they die. Perhaps I could try tossing them in a bowl of liquid instead? But somehow it works.

Compared to the Safari Flea Comb
My Maltese mix dog’s long hair seems to attract all sorts of grass fleas, gnats, pollen, etc. Whenever we come in from a walk, I like to run a flea comb through her fur to be sure that no unwanted visitors make their way into the house.
I also have the Safari comb Safari® Flea Comb with a Double Row of Teeth but find that for everyday use, I prefer to use this Sentry comb. The teeth on this Sentry comb are longer which does help when combing a long haired dog. Also, the single row of teeth makes it easier to see what I am combing out of her hair.
The Safari comb’s double row of teeth does trap fleas or gnats better but it is more difficult for me to determine what the specs between the teeth might actually be. I do keep a jar of soapy water on the grooming table to rinse the comb after use. An old toothbrush also helps to clear the comb’s teeth.
Both combs can be useful but if you are looking for a comb primarily to trap fleas, the Safari comb will do a better job of that. If, on the other hand, you need a fine comb that will easily remove pollen, grass pieces, etc. along with the occasional flea or gnat, this long toothed Sentry comb excels.

    Best combs!
I’ve used these combs on multiple dogs – all different breeds. They last forever. I only replace them when I lose them. I’ve bought other brands and nothing else is as sturdy and solid. Other combs seem to pull at the dogs fur or the bristles come loose. Not these! Great product!

    Great for burrs
I have GSD and a ASD. This was great for combing out burrs. Didn’t work for pulling out anything else. Teeth come out too easy

    Worked great
Using the furminator I was able to locate quite a few fleas and thought it might be doing enough. I then ordered this and was able to get out so many more. It also locates the flea drops (black circles). Really did not bother either dog. I highly recommend another reviewers advice to do outside and then have a cup with warm water and dawn. The dawn kills fleas (from what I found online). Then you can dunk the comb after each run thru before they have a chance to jump off. I also used Dawn to wash both dogs and the comb was able to get a few more dead fleas the following day. I combed AM and PM for 5 days. I also sprayed down the area post combing. Vacumming daily and washing all bedding was also done, in addition to the normal spot treatment both dogs get. This got rid of any noticeable fleas in a week.

Works well on both dogs and cats
This comb works great on getting fleas off of both our dog and cats. If they just have one or two, I can kill them between my thumb nail and the place where the metal teeth enter the plastic handle. When our pets got infested with fleas, I filled a cup with water high enough to cover the comb and added one pump of liquid hand soap (do this after the water is in the cup so you don’t get bubbles on the top). I then ran the comb through their fur once and immediately put the flea-laden comb in the water and used my finger to wipe the fleas off the comb. The soap in the water kills the fleas and keeps them from getting to the surface of the water and jumping out. Repeat this until there are no fleas on your pet, or you have to change the water because it’s so full of fleas!
