If your cat loves to go after your limbs under sheets, this toy is the one!
Pros:- This toy arrives in a nice box, suitable for gifting.- There is a solid base that doesn’t tip- AA batteries are a handy choice and allow you to use rechargeable ones- The toy times off on it’s own, so you won’t run down batteries too fast- The button on top of the base to re-start it is easily accessible.- The toy that moves around is highly attractive to cats; mine was trying to get at it before I even had it out of the package.- The random pattern of movement keeps the toy interesting- The peek-a-boo action (the toy isn’t always visible) is more enticing than if it were always seen- The vinyl cover is heavy-duty and smooth. That will help with durability, though cats with claws can destroy anything, so be realistic about that- The lights actually did help to return her attention to the toy, so she played a little longer because of themCons- The restart button is recessed, so it will not work to train the cat to push it. It requires a human touch.- The batteries are not included. I prefer re-chargeable anyways, and the price reflects your need to provide batteries, but if you like them to be served up with a toy, then be aware that you’ll need to get them separately.The pros definitely outweigh the cons, no contest! My cat loves this toy, and it already gave my hands and feet a break, as she likes to pounce on anything that moves under the covers. This toy seems to get that out of her system. The first day, she played with this toy for over an hour, which is previously unheard of for this cat. If they upgrade the design to one that allows the cat to push the button, I would definitely upgrade for that design and train her to push it. Smarty Cat has great customer service
UPDATE: The company very kindly sent me a new, different new far less noisy product. They explained that the newer units are designed to make a loud noise so that cats will release the wand toy. This prevents the motor from wearing down. I think do they need to go back to the drawing board, but I am changing my review because of their great customer serviceUPDATE: I am about to return a defective second unit. Both units make a horrible grating noise that could wake the dead. Our cat won’t play with the new one because the noise frightens him. When Smarty Cat added the lights and more realistic wand toy, they clearly compromised on the quality.Pros: Except for the tiny skirt, this is a great design improvement upon the original Hot Pursuit toy. The old one just had a little red tube for the cat to chase around. Our cat got quickly bored with it, so I rigged it with a furry wand mouse much like the new and improved model. Our cat just CANNOT get enough of this new Hot Pursuit. He “asks” me to turn it on and plays with it for hours. Highly recommended for easily bored or high energy kitties.Cons: Smarty Cat lowered the price, and a s a result the quality of the newer design is abysmal. The skirt gets quickly ripped to shreds and the motor wears out in a few weeks. In addition, this new model is a battery eating monster! I have to replace the AA batteries at least once a week. This may be due to the addition of flashing lights. Sadly, I will have to find a similar, but rechargeable toy of better quality. I still have the sturdy old unit from years ago and there is no comparison.

Buy This Toy Without Hesitation !!
The SmartyKat Feather Whirl Electronic Motion Cat toy has to be one of the most cleaver, well thought out cat motion toys going. After using this toy for awhile, I can say with all honesty that this company knows cats. I bought it for Gabriel, who I adopted about 9 months ago. She’s 10 years old and must have come from a somewhat abusive home because she tends to be overly cautious and it takes her a bit of time to adjust to anything new. Her favorite toy is still the KONG Wubba long leg soft mouse (also Amazon Prime) and I’m always trying to get her to be more active. At first she was afraid of the SmartyKat and didn’t know what to make of it but she’s warming up to it. She’ll stalk it slowly, bat at the feathers, and then move away and watch it until she decides it’s safe enough to try again. Most of the time she just seems to enjoy just watching it do its little dance.It works best on a solid floor which allows the ball to move around while the feathered wand is spinning. As the wand spins the feathers back and forth, a small weight inside the ball tends to keep the wand upright and works with this spinning motion causing the ball to slowly roll around the floor. SmartyKat’s electronic control spins the wand in random directions, stops, and starts and seems to have a mind of its own – very unpredictable which I like. It does work on carpet but rolling motion is limited depending on the carpet thickness. Twirling motion isn’t affected by the carpet. I also like that it’s motor is very quiet, almost dead silent, so it won’t scare your kitty with any noise.I installed lithium AA cells for longer life. SmartyKat draws about 375 milli-Amps from fresh batteries which means it could run continuously for two hours. I would expect to get a good 4 to 6 hours of intermittent run time from a set of alkaline or lithium batteries. That’s a lot of play time for a 10 year old cat since Gabriel’s favorite past time seems to be napping :-)I’ve tried so many different toys with Gabriel to keep her active and stimulated and SmartyKat has proven to be the best of the rest. At it’s very reasonable purchase price, you can’t go wrong. I think that any cat or kitten would enjoy this motion toy and highly recommend it. I know I’ll be looking to this company – SmartyKat – the next time I’m shopping toys for Gabriel.
