    Nice whistle.
I’m pleased with the quality and price point for this item. I’ve taken it for a ‘test drive’ a couple of times so far. My nine year old dog responds to it well and think it will be great for us in the future. Just to note – my dog was already trained to respond to my normal whistle, but I see no reason why with the proper training any dog would benefit. I bought it because there’s been a few times when I try to whistle my dog back, I’m like Daffy Duck in the old Looney Toons trying to whistle after eating a mouthful of crackers! I’m also hoping it’s pitch will carry over loud ambient noise like wind and traffic. We’ll see. I’m ordering a few more to have around. I do wish it came in different colors. Orange is great when I’m in the woods. I’d like something less obvious when I’m not.

    Great for senior, deaf dog!
I have a 12.5 yr Norwich terrier who lost his hearing a yr ago or so. I’ve gotten used to it and we work around it. However, the bigger issue is if we are in my backyard and I can’t see him then I can’t call him in. This whistle totally works great! I called him with it and gave hime a treat twice and that’s all it took. He is a smart little dog though;) I’ve never used a dog whistle before but this one I can hear, fyi. Really happy about this whistle. I no longer fret when I can’t see him and wonder what he’s gotten up to!!

    Great for the price
The only downside is that it feels like a cheep plastic kid’s toy, but, considering the price, that is pretty much what I expected when ordering it. Functionally it seems to be perfect. when you blow into it it does make a bit of a whistle noise, but judging from my dog’s reaction, it makes more noise than humans can hear. He was very curious when I first blew into it. Now we’re beginning the process of training him to associate this noise with his most favorite thing ever, CHEESE! My hope is that soon I’ll have a reliable method of getting my loving but stubborn pooch to come running without fail when we’re outside. If Mr. Pavlov has anything to say about it, I should be in luck. I’ll be ordering more of these.

    A Great Training Tool
The ACME 210.5 whistle is a great training tool. It gives a distinctive high-pitch whistle that the dogs really respond to. It’s small and fits in your pocket or around a lanyard. This whistle can snap my dog out of anything.Another great thing about it is that there is no trill. This is not your gym teacher’s whistle. It is just a straight consistent tone. That really cuts down on the obnoxious level, in my opinion.I want to adress what some others have complained about. Yes, this whistle is pretty loud. It is not unbearably loud. It will not be so loud that you can’t train with it. But, yeah, after an extensive training session your ears will be ringing a bit. I don’t think that is a knock on the whistle. It needs to be loud enough that your dogs can hear it from a distance, and it needs to be reliable. I think a bunch of people expect this to be silent because it is a dog whistle. But, trust me, the efficacy of silent dog whistles is mostly nonsense. Real trainers use this whistle. Do not expect it to be silent, it wasn’t intended to be.

Perfect – just what I needed!
This whistle is small, easy to see, and loud enough for my needs. The volume depends entirely on how hard you blow into it, so when you are training indoors, for example, you can “tone it down” to an indoor volume but still let loose outdoors and use its full volume as needed. Humans CAN hear this whistle. It’s not silent by any means.IF YOU EXPECT YOUR DOG TO AUTOMATICALLY COME TO THIS WHISTLE, please read on. Dogs are not born with “come-running-to-a-whistle” DNA. You have to TRAIN them to come to the whistle.Training is as simple as this:1. Have some tasty treats (REALLY good treats like chicken or scrambled egg – no kibble or milkbones!)2. Find your dog – stand next to him/her3. LIGHTLY blow whistle and IMMEDIATELY give him/her several small bits of yummy yummy treat4. Repeat this several times every day5. Soon your dog will associate the whistle with SUPER good food and will come running every time* he/she hears it!* be sure to build up distance and distractions slowly – if you go from 5ft away in your boring living room to 100yds away at a busy dog park, you are setting your dog up to fail! Baby steps!!

Doesn’t work and hurts my human ears
This makes me feel like I’m losing my hearing if I try to blow it. Tried it at the dogs who bark across the street like someone else said in their review and did not work or make any change.

    Easy transition
I been using the colar shocker in my dogs young life. After noticing I didn’t need to correct him anymore with the collar, I thought the whistle would be a good transition and it was. We walk in heavy wooded areas with trials, and as soon as he is out of sight instead of calling his name I now have been blowing a short whistle. Within a few days now, I’m hardly using the whistle because he starting to stop and check how far I am. Either way its so light and is good for an emergency for myself that I plan on always carrying it with me. Also, every now and then It’s a good way to snap him out when his distracted by wild life. I bought one as a trial now I’m planning to by each family member there own, that way we don’t have to share the same one.

Probably not useful for a novice
I bought this in an effort to try to stop the constant barking of 2 rowdy pitbulls owned by some rather inconsiderate neighbors. As a novice, I hoped a dog whistle would be an inexpensive solution prior to repeated calls to the police and animal control. This is an audible whistle – not the silent dog whistle you see in movies. It isn’t obnoxiously loud at least. While the whistle does capture a dog’s attention, it is difficult to have the dog relate the whistle to obedience from behind a fence.I gave this a 3 because it kind of worked.

After years of using those cheap, adjustable dog whistles, you know, the cheap chrome plated ones that always clog with lint and then fall apart in your pocket, I broke down and bought this simple (and slightly more expensive) plastic one. I was a bit leery at first, wondering if my Rat Terriers would even respond to it. Well, as soon as I pulled it out of the packaging and blew it, my dogs were at my feet waiting for their treat. Why the treat? From when they were pups, I rewarded them with a small treat every time they came after I blew the whistle.I hike daily on trails where I often encounter bears and coyotes. Swift recall is crucial. I have an emergency whistle as well, but it’s not practical as a dog whistle as it’s too loud and disruptive to be used on the trails. Also, I don’t want to attract attention. I just want to recall the dogs. The ACME Dog Whistle has the perfect pitch: More of a tweet than a shrill scream. I give it two short puffs and my dogs come instantly back to me, regardless of where they are. I keep the whistle attached to my hiking bag with an S-Biner, so that I always have it ready whenever I go out.Note: I originally ordered the orange one and then, before it shipped, asked if I can get the black one intead. The vendors responded imediatly that this would be no problem. They were a pleasure to deal with.

Le bruit attire de suite l’attention de mon chien, même à distance. Plus efficace que d’utiliser la voix lorsque le chien est loin… Je recommande!

I have 3 of these in different colours and different places ( lanyard, car keys, kitchen) so there is always one available in in a senior moment. Keeping the same frequency is important for consistency in training. Despite the cheap appearance all three are robust and effective. The volume is up to your level of puff. I’ve used quietly indoors with the puppy class melee to get him back, or full blast when he’s trailing a scent in the woods completely out of sight. It is possible with these to get a swooping tone just from the way you blow.I recommend these.
