Taller than most in this similar style
Update 10/18–Held up well on the sisal but the post broke out of the base. Prob didn’t help that my grandson was leaning on it quite a bit. Wish they could use something better than this compressed sawdust stuff. (A nice metal base would do wonders but I suppose it might slow down the need to reorder so often! ) Since it had the top platform, I just flipped it over and now it’s a post without the top. Should last a while longer. (After reading a lot of reviews out there, I decided when it does come time to toss this that I’m taking out the hardware to keep in the event of a future shipment with no hardware. Tends to be an issue no matter what kind of item you order!)#####Decided to get the one with the platform since it was just a little more than the ones without. Ended up being a few inches taller which was a bonus. Was worried about the platform being small or unsteady, but it holds even the largest and hasn’t toppled over yet. They all love it, and with another surface to lounge on, can’t go wrong. Trixie products hold up a long time with aggressive scratchers. This is my 5th in about 4 years (2 in service at a time) and are affordable enough to replace when needed.

I really like this simple cat scratching post, probably because it has the extra benefit of a “perch” for my cats. It’s tall enough for my average sized adult cats. It also can support the weight of both of them on top without looking like it’s going to break or topple over. The carpet part on the base and top portion is very soft and plushy, although it looks a little cheap. But this is for cat use so I guess extravagance isn’t a necessity.Putting it together was pretty easy. If you are confused at first put the two square pieces together, the largest one is the bottom and the smaller one is the top. There is a washer and screw included for the base, and the top part has the screw already inserted so you can twist on the top. It comes with an allen wrench. I found that the bolt on the bottom stuck out just slightly from the base, so I put a piece of duct tape over it so it would not accidentally scratch my floor if it got slid around. Perhaps I didn’t screw it in as tightly as I should have. At any rate, my duct tape has solved any problems I might have had.Cats both immediately loved the post, as I knew they would so we will get a lot of use out of it I’m sure until it’s too ratty to leave up.EDIT 1/12/15… Somewhat less happy as immediately the sisal rope that is wrapped around the base is beginning to slouch and sag with use by my cat. You can now see gapes in it, revealing the cardboard tube within. The appearance is no longer as nice. I still like the aspect of the platform, as does my cat. Changing from 4 stars to 3 though, because it’s still pretty new and I would expect it not to show this much wear yet.EDIT 6/15/16… This is still hanging in there. The sisal rope is slouching several inches from the top now, but everything else is remaining solid. Cat still enjoys using it. Changing from 3 stars back to 4 because it has lasted so long.EDIT 8/17/16 – Sisal rope is now falling off.

So far, so good
At first my cat prefered her beaten up scratching post and I had to coax her to use this one, but now she chooses to use it, although she won’t ever sit on the platform. She’s a 12 lb cat and a little clumsy. The platform is not sturdy enough. She’s also used to her old post that had a thicker carpeted bottom and she like to grab onto the post and fling herself around. The bottom on this one has a plush covering, which is soft, but it doesn’t provide any cushion for her. Overall this is a good scratching post. It does its job and it’s nice that it’s a little taller so my cat can stretch as she scratches. One negative is that the rope isn’t wound as tightly nor secured in place like the old post so I have a feeling this one may fall apart quicker.

Cheap and wobbly. Get something better.
Poorly built. The whole thing wobbles wildly even if you put wight on the bottom to keep it from tipping. My cat went on it once and won’t go near it again. The top and bottom square sections are not truly carpeted, either. It’s like a thin layer of felt over compressed board so it’s hard as a rock. It’s kinda like if you laid a bedsheet over a concrete floor.It’s cheap, that’s why I bought it. The reviews were mixed, so it was a gamble. I lost this time. Do yourself a favor and pay more for a better one or just make it yourself.

Lightweight, about as sturdy as $20 will buy
We got the one with the platform on top thinking our gal might like a place to sit. Unfortunately, as soon as our rotund girl jumped off the top, it just about toppled over. Good thing I was right there! Itâs sort of wobbly and unstable even without a cat on it, so we knew the platform was a no go.We removed the top but needed to cover up the screw so we added a silicone tumbler boot and some duct tape. With the addition of some dangling toys from our personal collection, itâs now a pretty good scratching post. 🙂 itâs not bad, but itâs cheap and not super sturdy, so I wouldnât recommend the one with the platform unless you have a kitten or something. We have other cat trees and just needed a scratching post in the bedroom to deter our kitty from scratching the bed, so this will fill the need for now.

Affordable and does its job
I got the Espejo with the platform, but as I guessed it wasn’t necessary as my Scout hasn’t taken to the platform much- but that’s no problem, cats are picky.However she uses the post often. Its rather unstable, it is pulled back from her claws but hasn’t fell yet. I knew what I was getting at this price though.

Wir waren auf der Suche nach einem ganz einfachen Katzenbaum, da unsere Katze den Baum ausschlieÃlich zum kratzen verwendet.Dieser erfüllt seinen Zweck sehr gut. Nimmt nicht so viel Platz ein und ist auch nicht so dominant im Raum präsent.Manchmal denke ich, dass der Fuà etwas breiter sein könnte, weil der Baum ganz schön wackelt, wenn unsere Katze dran war.Aber alles in allem sind wir sehr zufrieden.

We couldn’t be more pleased! The scratcher is sturdy and easy to assemble, and Basil took to it within seconds! He’s been a bit of a pain recently because he’s been using the carpets, but that’s hopefully a thing of the past. He also likes to sit on the top deck and has had a couple of snoozes already on this, the first day.If there’s one thing that could be improved it’s that the base could have more mass for greater stability – maybe the post could allow filling with sand? This is an issue with all scratchers though. I might try adding a square of 10mm MDF to the base, which should fix it.It’s great value for money and I can recommend it without reservation.

If you cannot afford cat furniture, this is quite a good alternative. It has the scratching post and a platform on the top of it where my cat likes to sit and watch all the activities around him.
