It does not.Whatever you say in that moment is what is quickly spits back out – and yes its kinda funny – but its quick and then done. One and done.No instructions in the box – that was really frustrating. Outside of box says “Shake / Repeat / Companion” so here I was shaking it and trying to figure it out. Oh to be the fly on the wall.Sending it back. I had hopes of recording a birthday message & sending it off to my college son at his dorm, but this definitely won’t work.

Sound quality is poor.
I returned this and ordered the Ecoloz hamster. We purchased this as well and the voice quality is better.Cute hamster. Also, the cover is shut with a very, very, tiny screw. You will need a mini tip Philips screwdriver,

LOVE this toy. Purchased for our 10 yr old who loves penguins and silly things. What a hoot. The volume is too loud (and can’t be controlled) but we turn it off when finished playing, put it in its box, and it’s ready for another round later. Works best when only one or two children are using it. But works SO WELL in how it repeats anything you say. Speak slowly for best results.
